Picture Word Inductive Model

Grade: 2nd Materials: Markers or yarn Paper TEKS: 2.5 Reading/Vocabulary Development. Students understand new vocabulary and use it when reading and writing. Teaching content: there were 10 new vocabulary words taught in the classroom as follows: huge, polar bear, crown, castle, pillar, paw, fur, snowflake, sad, lonely. PROCEDURE: PHASE ONE: study a picture selected by the teacher 1. Showing the pupils a picture (See Appendix 3). PHASE TWO: Identify what they see in the picture for the teacher to label 2. The teacher will call on students to name and label the picture. “Shaking out” words from the picture i.e. letting the pupils find out the English vocabulary which describes the objects on the picture. PHASE THREE: Read and review the words generated; use the picture word chart to read their own sets of words 3. Tracing the line from the picture to the words; the teacher read each word out loud and spelled them one by one. PHASE FOUR: Teacher leads reviews of the picture-word chart 4. The teacher lead the pupils read out it one by one and spell the words (Repeat reading and read aloud); explain the meaning in English. PHASE FIVE: Students classify the words 5. Giving the students printed out word cards with VOCABULARY words and share categories they develop. The teacher lets the student check the meaning of the words by looking up from the picture dictionary on the white board. PHASE SIX:Added new words to the board and the word bank 6. The teacher assisted the students to review the previous learning of the new words. PHASE SEVEN: Develop titles, sentences, and paragraphs about their picture 7. Students add a title to the Picture Chart that is created. PHASE EIGHT: THE teacher models writing sentences 8. The teacher writes sentences using the vocabulary words, aloud with students. PHASE NINE: 9. Student writes sentences using the vocabulary words Questionnaires for the students ; time duration: 5 minutes. PHASE TEN: The students classify the shared sentences 10. The students classify the shared sentences PHASE ELEVEN: Teacher models putting the categories of sentences together in a paragraph 11. The teacher uses the categories of vocabulary PHASE TWELVE: Students practice writing or dictating 12.The students will write or dictating in their vocabulary journals Assessment: Students will create sentences with the new words that was shaken out. Students will complete the assigned worksheets. |
